ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitates communication and coordination among members of the healthcare team.
  • Provides patient care to include: patient assessment prior to physician’s/nurse practitioner’s examination, serves as patient advocate/liaison by answering questions related to care and treatment, as appropriate, implements physician orders (injections, prescription refills, diagnostic tests, referrals, etc.) and assists providers with procedures.
  • Escorts patient to exam room
  • Involves the individual patient and caregiver, as appropriate, in decision making.
  • Triages phone calls to the appropriate department and enters the call into Allscripts as a telephone encounter. After the call has been addressed, communicates with the patient and documents in the Telephone Encounter.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the patient care areas (exam rooms)
  • Ensures exam rooms are stocked at all times.
  • Cleans and disinfects instruments according to policy.
  • Performs clinic tasks as directed by Practice Manager/Clinic Supervisor.
  • Assists Practice Manager/Clinic Supervisor with the ordering and receiving of medical supplies and medications.
  • Prepares charts and other medical records for clinic in accordance to LSUHCN Policy and Procedures.
  • Capable of scheduling patient appointments with the appropriate physician.
  • Call in prescriptions and/or refills for the patient as ordered by the physician.
  • Always provide continuity of care.
  • Participates fully in patient education to improve clinical outcomes.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Diploma from an accredited Medical Assisting program required.
  • 1-2 Years Hospital or Clinic Experience Preferred
  • 1-2 Years of Behavioral Health experience preferred

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Current CPR Certification required.
  • Current National Medical Assistant Certification preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Capable of lifting 50-100 lbs.
  • Must use proper body mechanics when lifting, pushing, or pulling an object or person.
