About  Our Department

LSU’s Department of Nephrology and Hypertension provides a full range of specialized nephrological and hypertension consults and services for patients with kidney disease and hypertension. Our services include inpatient and outpatient consultations, nephrological intensive care, dialysis access care and declots, inpatient and outpatient dialysis, CKD education, anemia management in kidney disease, metabolic bone disease and management of kidney stones, evaluation and treatment of resistant hypertension. Our physicians are dedicated to providing state-of-the art, comprehensive services to patients suffering from systemic conditions that affect the kidneys, fluid and electrolyte disorders, and hypertension. Despite major advances in healthcare, kidney disease and hypertension are still responsible for one of the highest mortality rates in Louisiana.

Our dedicated LSU nephrologists collaborate with physicians across the LSU Healthcare Network to form a multidisciplinary team with expert knowledge of the interdependence of bodily systems with the kidneys. Patients can be seen in our nephrology and hypertension outpatient clinics, or accepted directly for inpatient admission in cases of severely compromised renal function.

As an academic medical center, we have the opportunity to use the most recent medical breakthroughs to improve our patients’ kidney health, conduct cutting edge research and offer unique treatments not found at other hospitals in the region. LSU nephrologists offer in-depth consultation for congenital renal disorders and genetic counseling. Our individually tailored nephrology care often also incorporates nutritional counseling and medication management.
